Ok, let\'s talk about The Labyrinth

But first, let's talk about what's been happening in the last months. In January, when we were still enjoying The Dark and fighting against our servers, a big international company hired us to create a new game. They were releasing a product and wanted to use a game as a viral campaign. So we created a new story with new characters and spent some months building the thing.

It is ready, and I gotta say we liked this game better than Trapped. But right now it is stuck in some bureaucratic confusion and we don't know when - or if - it's going to be released. There's nothing we can do about it, and until some time ago we were still waiting to release it anytime. Now we're afraid it will become a side note in our portfolio and decided to just let go. If things change we'll let you know.

So now we're finally developing The Labyrinth. It will have some major changes compared to the previous games, and it will be a pilot for a new engine, something we wanted to do since the beginning. No, I won't give you further details right now, but it's meant to be good.

You'll meet David Green again in October 2008, when we're going to end the Trapped trilogy for good. But does this mean we're going to stop creating games?

No way. When The Labyrinth is ready, we will be able to release games faster and better than we did until now. And we have a lot of ideas just waiting to be brought to you. Things envolving angels, snowmen, ghost ships, playing dice with the devil... The list is not small.

For all of you who've been sending us e-mails about part 3, sorry we don't have the time to answer them all. For those who were waiting to find out what were the big news, sorry we can't just forget about this big company and release the game by ourselves. Now we're back on track.

And, by the way, we'll be looking for sponsors soon. If anyone's interested, you can help us to build all those new ideas.

Cheers,

Rodrigo

Update: Sorry all. I had written "October 2009" by mistake. The correct date is actually October 2008. I already corrected it in the post.

Waiting

Ok, I don't wanna leave you without updates for so long, but... there's nothing exciting happening right now. Yeah, something's going on, but... there are some issues to solve before I can tell you about it.

I wish I could tell you something's gonna happen really soon, but I already did it and guess what? I was wrong. So i'll keep writing these stupid posts so you can see we're not dead and we didn't stop making things.

The Labyrinth is already in production. I can't say anything else about it, and damn it: The Labyrinth isn't the big news.

So, if you wanna think about something, try these:

- Have you heard the news about Sergey Brin? I gotta say the idea that we're coming closer and closer to be able to travel to space for fun, and that there are a lot of private investors working on it, really exciting. Have you noticed that we are living in the future or am I just getting old?

- I'm a huge fan of myths and legends. And if I were to visit Florida, I'd certainly try to find everythind I could about this.

- Isn't Bhâskara II a great name?

- Frogs are cool.

Yes, you can link these informations. Or, at least, we can, but soon we'll explain it to you. Meanwhile...

Meanwhile I'm taking some short vacations, and I'm going to spend some days travelling through some cold places in Brazil, drinking some wine and having some fun. Yeah, I do that sometimes. I'll let you know when I'm back.

Cheers.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Ok, sorry for the strange title. I'm just agreeing with a comment from the previous post.

The thing is we don't want to talk about The Labyrinth right now, because of some other project. But we can't tell you anything about some other project yet, and that's not up to us. So, unless you want me to comment the last Indiana Jones movie or sing a Monty Python song, there's not much I can do.

We're sorry about the delay. And I can guarantee you that right now we're really anxious to tell you everything that's been going on. But... we'll have to ask you for a little more patience.

What we can say is that The Labyrinth is already in production. Which means... ALL CHANGE (have you listened to Supper's Ready, by Genesis, already?).

Oh, and a personal curiosity: are there any EJEF members reading this?

Random stuff

Ok, let's be honest: Trapped has a lot of limitations. We knew that from the beginning, but it was an experience. Now we can say it was a successful one, but still an experience.

So the original plan was to build the trilogy and then start over a new engine, that would allow us to make better games and build bigger storylines.

Some new facts, including an insanely rich japanese guy, a rumour about a Beatles reunion and a really old hermit, made us think otherwise.

So now we have three things happening simultaneously: one of them you'll discover in a few days - or so we hope. The second one is called Agent 2.0, and it's the new engine that is being built at the same time as The Labyrinth, the first game to use it and, again, an experience.

The third one is Agent 3.0, it's related to an angel and it probably won't be finished until 2009. Until then, we plan to use Agent 2.0 to release more and more games, even after the Trapped trilogy is finished.

So don't worry, we won't abandon you that soon.

-------------------------------------------------------

Have you ever heard of Diego Floor? He's studying to be a physicist. But he's also a really gifted illustrator. A name for you to take note.

-------------------------------------------------------

The Dark bonus: even though no one noticed (at least in the forums we follow), we gave you a CLUE some time ago. So here's another one: what if, instead of Trapped, David was Lost?

Think about it. Better yet, try to apply it. Somewhere. Somehow.

Cheers

Rabbit Tell

Ok, so we weren't bought by a huge corporation. Neither we have more money than we can count. But yes, we started our own small company, and we're pleased to present you Rabbit Tell. Yeah, that same rabbit statue from the first game.

And what changes with that? Just a few things. First of all, we're migrating this blog so we don't need to keep more than one. We'll make this the smoother transition we can, so you don't have to change anything in your favorites or subscriptions, but there will be a transition.

Second, a lot of people asked us not to end the Trapped trilogy. Well, it was always meant to be a trilogy, and it was always meant to be a story with an end, so after The Labyrinth we won't continue it - until we can produce Trapped - for real, but that's an uncertain project for a still distant future. Anyway, Rabbit Tell will allow us to create other games, other stories, other concepts. And that's not bad at all.

Third, now Trapped will be officially hosted under http://trapped.rabbittell.com. The current url will be kept, so don't worry about that. Specially, if you found those two coins (some of you know what I'm talking about), you'll want to play The Labyrinth under the current url or else have to find them all over again in the new one.

Other than that, well... soon enough you'll have news. Really soon, actually.

Cheers to all.

A bright new future

We are pleased to announce that Rabbit Tell was bought by a huge corporation for more money than we can count. Of course, they are now owners of the Trapped trilogy.

The corporation, that doesn't want to reveal its name just yet, has imposed some minor changes in our gameplay and story. So you might want to play the games all over again and find the hidden items. One tip: the White Rabbit carries a rose to the garden in the Dark.

Other changes are:

- David is now Simon;

- Becca is a diabetic;

- A dwarf will become friends with Becca's dad;

- Becca's dad will become a zombie in The Labyrinth.

We will also be releasing REAL mutant pears. A Brazilian candy company called "Guri" is responsible for the manufacturing of the new candy. What does it taste like? Buy it to find out.

And last, but not least, with our new budget we were able to hire Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull to compose a original soundtrack for the series, that will later be available in CD and Cassette through Rabbit Tell Records and sold online.

Mutant Pear Candy will be available next week at www.rabbittell.com/store. Changes in Trapped gameplay have already been made (if they don't work, just keep reloading). Trapped soundtrack is scheduled for release in September.

In 1914 a guy called Gideon Sunback invented what we call "the zipper". The simple device is considered one of the most important inventions of all time. At the time, the industrial revolution was at its peak and ingenious inventions appeared by the dozen.

Another guy, named Robert Goddard, revolutionized transportation when he launched rockets at 885 km/h in the 30s. In the following years, governments started space programs. They sent animals, such as Laika, the dog, to a one way journey in space. As we all know, in 1969 the man stepped on the moon, as most people believe. There were some other manned missions to the moon and the construction of the International Space Station (ISS) begun.

All this information has been widely broadcast and are in today's kid's history books.

People should know this.

So, what the heck happened?

Well, my old server gave me a hell of a headache. So I dumped those guys. The trouble is I didn't really think this through. The old domain is blocked, and I'm still trying to get it back. Also, I lost half of my database. That's why some posts got lost and the comments for The Dark are gone. In other words, ARGH!

Anyway, it shouldn't take so long to get back. But we got involved in a new project, and spare time became a serious issue. That's why we can't set a date for The Labyrinth just yet. But don't worry, it will come out eventually. And you'll hear about us soon enough.

Ok, ok, but what's with this "Rabbit Tell" thing?

Well, that's the good news. We'll give you details about it soon enough. But you'll want to take note of the name "Matt Sandorf".

We'll be back.

How deep the rabbit hole really goes

And that's it. There are a couple testers still playing it, but I guess I just finished the last details. And the official release date is indeed december 30.

The annoying thing is that this evening I'll start the server migration. This will affect you in two ways: I'll disable all the comments and the newsletter feature and the site might run unstable for the next few days. Sorry for the inconvenience, but that's absolutely necessary.

So, what can you expect from The Dark? The testers agree with me that it's funnier. And longer. There's a lot more explanations than The White Rabbit, and the characters start to fit into their places. In my personal view, however, it's easier, but not everyone agrees with me in that. So let's say it's just as hard as The White Rabbit.

About the promised features, no, it does not have a soundtrack, but there are a lot more sound effects and ambience - except for the silent places. And now you can increase the size of the game, so things are not so tiny - this was the most often complaint I received, and the testers liked it.

I gotta say, it's been really fun making this game. I hope you all enjoy it in a few days, when you and mr. David Green find out how deep the rabbit hole really goes.

Is it ready yet?

The answer is "yes". And also "no". The beta version is ready, and the testers already started playing it. One of them - a friend of mine who's been asking "is The Dark ready?" EVERY SINGLE DAY since the day after the release of The White Rabbit - just finished it. And there are already a few changes to make. Not a big deal, this is expected and happened with the previous game. But the game itself is ready, and the release is officially scheduled for december 30.

It may take a little longer, though. I'll migrate servers this week, and there are some DNS issues to solve. Besides, the website may be down for a while. But the waiting will end soon.

I'd like to thank Ernani for his dog's pictures, who became Mr. Bubbles. I couldn't make the illustrations without these pictures. And, I gotta say, I'll be glad if I never have to illustrate again after The Labiryinth, but that's something to think of in a few months.

Speaking of that, I don't think The Labirynth will be ready until february. Soon I'll change the release dates to something more feasible.

And that's it. Merry Christmas, guys.
